OS X Leopard on a G4 iBook...

Anyone running OS X Leopard (v.10.5) on a G4 PPC? Does it run significantly slower than Tiger? Memory hungry? Any other problems I should be aware of? Thanks.

You need a processor faster than 867MHz. Minimum reqs say 512mb RAM is ok but 1MB would be better. Most seem to go 1MB as a minimum.
You might have to upgrade iLife depending on which version you have. I think you need 06

Thanks Milvus. The iBook I want to try this on has a 1.42 mhz processor with 1.5gb sdram so should be fine spec-wise. I'll strip out any apps/software that I don't regularly use to keep the machine running as light as possible.

My main concern is how Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and similar memory hungry programmes (and I include Firefox in that) will function...

Should be OK. Leopard is pretty light. I ran Photoshop OK on a 512MB G4 Powerbook on 10.4 pretty well.

Your ibook is a mid 2005 version. Your maximum OSX version is 10.5.8

To be honest, I'd not bother with the Leopard upgrade, as Tiger still works very well, but obviously I'm now starting to miss out on new software and existing software updates.

I guess I should just go out and buy a MacBook Pro ;-p

I use Safari, and rocketdock, on my laptop ... it's 'like' a Mac, but my software is compatible with it. Result.
