sd card keeps freezing up laptop
13 Answers
hi
can anyone give me an idea why im having problems when i insert a camera sd card into the reader on my laptop, to view and copy photos over, please?
i insert the card, go into 'my computer', click onto the card (f) but then my laptop freezes up (says 'not responding')
the timer stays on, and then after a while a 'not responding' box comes up saying 'please insert a disc into sd card (f)
thank you for any help offered :o)

im afraid ive not got the camera or lead here, i just borrowed the card off a relative, thinking i could just slot into the laptop ...
i will keep on looking about online to see if i can get any help/ideas, and failing that, i will see if i can get hold of the camera and lead, and try what youve said.
thanks again :o)

hi again to anyone else who might be able to throw some light on my question up there ^^^
well, ive put the sd card in a usb reader, and tried it in another laptop, but it still doesnt play,
it shows in 'my computer' but when you click on the card, it comes up with the same message box as before - 'insert disk into sd card (f:)'
i tried the usb reader in my laptop too, and the same happens.
just wondering if its because its an 'sdhc' card? whatever hc means..?
(the card is out of a small camcorder that takes stills and video)
thanks again :o/

hi cowtipper,
oooh nooo, i dont want to delete everything off the card, i wont be very popular if i do that! lol
right, ive been mooching about online and i think ive found out why its not working,
so ive come back to the thread, just incase someone else has the same problem any time.
and yes, i was right, its the 'hc' bit of the card thats causing the problem :-
SDHC means high capacity (4-32GB cards).
An SDHC card will fit in an SD card slot but will not work.
An SDHC slot will play both SDHC and standard SD cards.
Requires an external USB card reader that supports SDHC. Costs around £10-£15.
thanks to those that popped in offering their help, much appreciated
