strange behaviour on facebook

Hi. Somebody I know IRL has been displaying some rather odd behaviour on Facebook and I'm worried. Before I talk to others about it I need to be absolutely certain I'm not making a mistake due to not grasping the intricacies of the personalised privacy settings. My question is: Could it under any circumstances (any kind of settings) LOOK like somebody is talking to themselves on their wall even though they are not? In other words, is it possible that this person is in fact engaged in a dialogue that to ME looks like a monologue?

I'd rather not get into the circumstances. I'll deal with it. Just need to be sure I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. Thanks!

of course. People can set things so they don't show to anyone else, so it looks like only the person is talking/posting
maybe they are talking to someone who has blocked you, or you have blocked them.
Can't help you here except that I have heard there is a virus on some facebook pages...don't know if that is relevant.

Hello Postdog. I hope you are right but I've studied the options (I have my own account) and I really can't figure out how a person would set things that way. Would it be possible for you to specify? Thanks.

sara3: I haven't blocked anybody and it seems highly unlikely that any of this person's friends would block me - they don't know me. (They'd have to be friends with me first to block me - right?)

classylady that could be relevant. The virus you've heard of, does it "behave" this way?
wrong, I've blocked all manner of weirdos!
People talk to themselves on here sometimes, the internet can be very deceiving to those looking on from outside.
FaceBook has been pants tonight....

I could only see my replies.....

sara3, I'm not arguing, I'm asking: How would you block me on FB if you didn't know me?

boxtops that's true and that's why I want to be certain.
Question Author
Hi ummmm, this wasn't tonight but that's interesting.
-- answer removed --
you didn't say that.. you can find anyone's profile and block them, they don't need to be on their friends list.

and I wasn't arguing!

if I knew your name, I could block you.
I can't explain it, all I know is I have seen what you describe - something to do with privacy settings, where - I think - unless you are also a friend of the other person posting, you will not see their posts.
they may not know you but may have ticked a box that only their friends can see anything they put, even on other statuses
It;s a Koobface worm to do with malware, I don't know the in's and outs as to how it reacts but you could google it to see.
Trim....I was actually talking to you :-((((
Question Author
Okay, thanks sara. Still seems unlikely as this person's friends don't know me but it's valuable information nonetheless so thanks. PS I wasn't arguing either:)

Postdog I think I know what you mean but I've interpreted it differently. I take 'posts' to mean what I post on my own wall and not on others'. I've ticked the box that will make it impossible for non-friends to see my 'posts' but they still see them when I write on somebody else's wall, I know that for a fact. Or did you mean that you have also seen "monologues"?
Question Author
4getmenot, that would be the answer - but I can't find such a box, i.e. one that involves other people's walls as well as your own. Where is it?
Question Author
classylady, will do - thanks
I have my settings so that if I put anything on anyone else's profile, still only people on my friends lists can see it. For example my sister frequently has to explain things to her friend who don't know me cos it looks like she's having a mental episode on her own page!
