Hotmail misbehaving

I wrote this a few minutes ago, but it disappeared, so if this is a repeat - apologies.

When I log on to my Hotmail account, the page that appears is an old one with mails I have previously deleted or moved to 'junk'.

If I click on the box at the side of any of these old, highlighted messages, hotmail defaults to a 'new message' page.

Even if I don't do this, Hotmail also then defaults automatically to a 'new message' page, sometimes twice.

Then I have to return to 'inbox' again to get the current page.

I hope I have explained this clearly.
Can anyone tell me what is happening and how I can resolve it?
Many thanks
