Hi all

Does anyone know if there is a maximum file size that Audacity can load? I have looked online and found a variety of figures.

As far as I am aware, Audacity itself can handle enormous files, but only internally. The limitation in size for a .wav file is 4,294,967,339 bytes, which is dictated by the format itself. So I'm pretty sure that you could import two or more 4 GB (approx) wav files into audacity, but if you then exported the result as a wav file, it would not be playable. You could (I imagine) export the result as an mp3.

Thanks Rojash

I have done some more looking and I found that a .WAV file limit was stated as 2GB. Since I will be looking at loading an MP3 file of about 300MB I should be OK. Does system RAM have any bearing on this? I have 1.5GB fitted so I think I should still be OK. We shall see.
I would like to use Audacity to upload old LPs. I've downloaded the disc ok but can't for the life of me work out how to get the LP onto my computer?
Sorry to hijack your question scotman but can you tell me what to do with the control panel that comes up? Thanks.

That is quite a question. You need to connect the LP eck to the sound card in your PC. In Audacity you select the input and start playing. Obviously it is more complicated than that and I have never used that yet.

Here is a link to the user manual. It is a .PDF and in US sized pages so it does not print neatly but it is all there is. I suggest you down load it, print it and study it. Get back, probably on a new thread, if you need specific help.

This is probably a better link to the manual. 3rd section down.

Thank you very much scotman.
If you want to turn your LP tracks via Audacity into MP3s you will have to create a Lame file.

Google to get instructions on how to do this, sounds complicated at first but it is not really.
