Poor signal strength

Today my Internet speed has been very slow, and I have 'poor signal strength'. Is that because of my ISP (TT) or my router?
Have you any suggestions? The router is a ZyXEL that I have had for some time.

This may or may not help, but close by my computer I have a kind of mini aerial standing about 4-5 inches high. Moving this into different positions will often change the signal strength. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a laptop - have tried wigggling the aerial but no change. My signal strength is usually 'very good' so I can't understand why it has changed.

If you're talking about your own home broadband wireless signal then nothing that your ISP is doing will have any effect on your wireless signal. Your router can broadcast a wireless network signal even if it's got no internet connection being piped into it.

If nothing about the router has changed but the signal strength has then it could be being affected by a neighbouring wireless network. Download inSSIDer for free http://www.metageek.n...ts/inssider/download/ and use it to check for other wireless networks. Go into your wireless router's settings menu and make sure it's set to use a channel that's least populated (selecting channels 1,6 or 11 is best as these are the only ones that do not overlap). Report back your findings.

Thanks for your answer and my apologies for not answering earlier. I will get my OH to do this for me at the weekend ( I am a bit of a technophobe).
