I tried to load AVG and it failed to load properly. Now I want to uninstall it and start again but when I click on uninstall, all the symbols and boxes have Japanese/Chinese writing on them and I can't tell which buttons I should be pressing. Any ideas please.

Totally agree with Albags re Microsoft's Security Essentials.

One of the reasons AVG is not too good these days.
Installing, Un-Installing .. and Updating in particular.

Did you not even consider Microsoft's Security Essentials? You will not get that sort of problem.

Thanks again guys, particularly Albags and mamyalynne. I am taking your advice and am presently installing Microsoft's Security Essentials right now!

p.s. Should I also install Malwarebytes?

There is a McAfee Removal tool .. although it is aftermarket .. not made by McAfee.
AVG make one, which is on their site.
Just keep Malwarebytes up to date (scan weekly) You do NOT particularly need the Protection Module running all the time .. but if you surf about the web a lot on unknown sites, maybe you should leave it running (default setting)
I use the Pro version with flash scan .. but the free one is fine.
