TV Wi-Fi

My friend is thinking of buying a Samsung UE46ES6710 Smart TV.
The TV has wi-fi internet connection so she thinks she can use it instead of buying a laptop as well, (she wants to become a silver surfer)

Will this TV give her all she needs and how does it work e.g where is the keyboard?

Think you'd have to buy a keyboard separately, I have to use the tv remote on my Samsung. This tv looks like it as full web capability but you won't be able to download anything, I imagine it will be just surfing. Make sure they throw in the wifi adapter if it's not built in, else that's another 50 squid.

Note the browsers shipped on TVs are not as fully functional as the browsers on computers.

So not every web site will "work" correctly on a TV.

Just had another look, says wifi built in but I'd check, it comes with a tv remote and a media remote, that might be a keyboard of sorts.

btw It may seem an obvious statement, but she will also need a broadband connection into her house, and also a wireless router, to use the internet on the TV.

Well, it includes a browser and skype and access to Samsung apps. As for keyboard, this is from the Samsung site:
"Q: What type of keyboards are compatible w/ the smart tv? "

"A: VG-KBD1000 Smart Wireless Keyboard.Works On My 2012 46" ES6710 Series 6 SMART 3D Full HD LED TV (UE46ES6710U ) every feature works and Its a Stunning Addition to This Stunning TV By Samsung."

So it would seem to be an optional extra.

She doesn't have broadband at the mo. She wants to be able to surf, buy online, do online banking, and email............

I have the Samsung UE46ES7000 and although I could do all the things your friend wishes to do I wouldn't use the TV for doing it. It's not the same as a laptop. The web sites appearance differ, the on screen key board is very slow having to use the TV remote, she would definitely need a wireless keyboard.
The TV is brill but I would say she needs a laptop too.

With that TV, she can get a £150 voucher. That £150 will go a long way towards getting a Samsung tablet, which is what she really needs in order to do the things she wants to do.
