What Media Player To Use With A 2Tb External Hard Drive

Hi,
Wanting to get a media player that'll play avi, mp4, mkv files etc. from an external hard drive.
I've got a Sumvision Cyclone 2+ which is s'posed to work from a 2TB hdd but in practice doesn't.
Am thinking about a WD (Western Digital) HD TV player - don't need the live streaming - but can't get a definitive answer about using it with a drive of that size.
Anyone have any experience of media players ?
