can anyone advise, does Firefox install it's updates without input from the user, as i turned on the computer, and info came up from Firefox, it was too quick to catch much, something about checking add on compatibility, then i opened out screen to find all setting changed, font sizes twice the size, and it looks like it's installed Firefox 22.0, can it do that, thought i had to install the latest version, i am a bit miffed, as now look and setting of the screen looks wrong.

It depends if your setting require it to ask your permision before it installs updates Em. Mine does but it's possible to have it set so it installs automatically.

If you want to check go to

Control Panel- System and Security-Action Centre- Change User ocntrol and Accounht settings

you can alter your preferences there.

If you go to the Tools Menu, select Options, then the Advanced section and the Update tab within that then the top group of settings let's you choose between automatic installation of updates / check but let you choose / neve check for updates.

p.s. MozBackup http://www.mozbackup.org/index.html is a simple program for backing up / restoring Firefox data (and for other Mozilla programs).

i was under the impression any updates should be done by the user, not have it installed by a browser company... i might not have wanted it, not to mention the fonts, looks are not right... and no idea what else it might have changed...

It looks like another waste of time. I've got firefox set to automatically update and I'm still running version 21.0.

in the question box, the words are large, but go down to the replies and they are normal sized, that is a new one on me, they should both be the same. it's playing havoc with my eyesight, not good at the best of times.
will have a go at the various suggestions to see if can make at least the font size compatible... how odd.

dizmouk2009 - other browsers update regularly too but don't bother letting you know in advance and are often less open about just what the update has been for

as i said the text size is different, tx in my post, question is large, yet all the replies, thank you for those, are in a much smaller font, how does that happen.

Internet Explorer now has a DEFAULT of "Install new versions automatically".

See the Help menu and the "About Internet Explorer" option.

I think they do this for two reasons.

Many people were sitting on VERY old browsers and this was causing problems with people who design web sites having to test their web sites on very old browsers (who perhaps did not support newer features) and very new web sites.

Also older web sites are more vulnerable to attacks from hackers and so on.

New browsers are much more secure so it is to everyones advantage to have the latest browsers.
