Email Address

How is it possible to check if an email address still exists when I get no answers or notification of non-delivery. I am trying to reconnect to an old friend of many years and have emailed all possible contact emails in his local area in Victoria Australia without any reply whatsoever.

AFAIK the email will bounce back if it can't be delivered, if it has been delivered you're just relying on the fact that your friend actually still uses and logs onto that particular email account, if he doesn't then you're a bit stuck.

Thanks Rocky. I found a method of checking and the address concerned does exist but no luck so far. I have even checked the minutes of his yacht club AGM for2013 and he was still there so I am baffled. Trying the club contact email has no reply. So I will wait patiently Cheers

Some servers, for example BT's (@talk21.com), do not bounce messages that are either wrongly addressed or to closed addresses. In such cases a sent message simply vanishes without trace leaving the sender entirely in the dark.

I was helped by a contact. In Australia who was able to make contact for me so all is now well. I still don,t understand why it is so difficult for BT to advise but so be it.
