Ebay Bid - Pretty Sure I Didnt Make !

I have just had an email from ebay saying i have won an item - i looked at it - but pretty sure i didn't bid on it.
for a few reasons
mainly i have no recollection of it whatsoever - i did view the item and 'watch' it, but the starting bid was more than i wanted to spend in total, let alone bidding any more ...
and actually am not all that keen on it - its nice (a pendant) but i saved it to have a think about it

there were no other bids on it - and its says my bid was placed about 5 hours after the listing went live ...

as i say i dont remember bidding - and would usually wait until nearer the end time to bid anyway.

so my question is - how could i accidentally have bid??

i am so sure i didnt bid that i am now being paranoid and wondering could the seller have somehow known i was watching and done something?
not sure what or how of course - or why - not sure how many people would just pay for something they didnt bid on ...

there is no-one else could possibly have bid on it.

they offer refunds so im sure i could cancel the sale - but im more worried about how this happened?

either there is something dodgy going on on ebay, or i have the worst memory ever!

Difficult to do so as you have to confirm. Maybe someone with access to your PC did so for you, which I assume is unlikely, or you bid and forgot, or there is a tremendous screw up in the system.

I guess you could refuse and accept any bad feedback, or if you were close to bidding anyway, simply let it go. Not a nice situation to be in.

OG - do you have to confirm? I can`t remember doing that. Maybe that`s just me though. The Purchase button is right about the'Add to Watch List' button so maybe it was just a slip of the hand.

I don't buy much there of late, but yes I'm sure you reach a screen where you have one last chance to back out. But maybe that's just the 'buy now'
ones ? I've not won a genuine auction for a fair old while now.

Joko have you looked in My Ebay - Purchases, that will tell you if you bought it or not. And has it been paid for, PayPal etc?

it cant be anyone else for sure.

i could just pay - i mean its quite nice and would wear it, and the total is not extortionate, its a fair price i suppose - i just don't recall doing it - and the time of the bid was the afternoon so it wasnt a late night tired or drunk thing

it was $30 so will be about £20, but i just wouldn't have paid that for it - in fact i have already chosen another one for a similar price that i really like

im just glad if there is glitch its not something expensive

yes there is a confirmation window that opens up - so you cannot really do it accidentally.

it was not buy it now, so i would have had to have typed an actual bid in!

it did sell for the starting bid price, which is again why i wondered if it was a bizarre glitch.

it is actually in my ebay account so its genuinely there on the system - i have not paid yet - i'm debating whether to cancel it, and apologise.

i could accept it, then just return it - but then i'd lose the P&P and have to pay to return - and whats the point? - i may as well save us both the effort, of parcels, refunds etc etc

Here's a thought - assuming you are on a windows computer, look up the event viewer and see if your computer was turned on around the time the bid was placed.

You could also look at your browsing history.


If your computer was no on then, take a screen capture as proof.
