Tricky one this perhaps but any help welcome. If you have unfriended someone but have previous messages from them does the green dot show up against their name in your messages when they're signed in?

The green dot doesn't appear n the message list, it only appears against people signed in on your friend list.
I've just checked my fb now to confirm this ...... there are no green dots against any of my friends in the message list itself, including the ones that are currently signed in. The green dot only appears next to friends that are signed in (the list on the right hand side of the screen), so the answer to the question is, "no".
The fact that you unfriended them is irrelevant to be honest ......

Depending on where you access the messages from, depends on whether the green dot shows up.
If you access it from the left hand menu, it doesn't show up.
If you access it from the menu that runs across the top/middle of the screen - the green dot does show up, but I stand by my original comment that the green dot won't show up, as they are no longer on your friend list.
