A friend has asked me to join him on Linkedin. Having no experience of it, wonder if its worth joining and whether it poses any threat to privacy and security on line?

If you aren't looking for a job or business, then I can't see why you'd want to join. Because its about networking you use your own name and it gets shared around.

Thanks Woofgang, have been retired from paid work for yonks so cannot see the point of networking.
I've been asked to join several times - when I was working I thought there might be some point in it, from the networking aspect, but tbh I never had time to look at it - and people I had very little to do with often asked to link with me. I've taken myself off it now - it's definitely a work-related tool, not if you're not working (unless you have past experience to share, which can be valuable!).

Many thanks boxtops, Woofgang and yourself invariably shed light on a problem. Still use skills from work but the people I share them with are in personal contact, so Linkedin is a non starter I think.
You are welcome :)
I'm on it but not for any good reason. I rarely look around it because you can't look at anybody without it actually showing them that you have done so. It's a bit of pointless business tool IMO.
Prudie, I think it's a bit of a status symbol, too.....
I agree, almost like a cyber collection of business cards.
The only noticeable thing I've done on LinkedIn is talk on forums, and that's not all that noticeable.
