Ipad Bookmarks Disappeared!

All my bookmarks and favourites have simply disappeared this morning. There was an earlier update from Apple - could this have anything to do with it? Should I be doing anything to solve this or do these things resolve them selves?
Many thanks for all suggestions as I am an ignoramus with such matters.

Do you back up regularly? if you do then you can restore from the back up

Thank you very much for your help. I have done the latest update and the problem is now resolved.
