Mcafee Telling Me My Firewall Is Off....

Please check my status so I can address this security issue?

My free trial with McAfee ended yesterday, so I installed freebie version of Avast.
Please could someone help me out here? Haven't a clue what to do next :(

You should have uninstalled McAfee and rebooted before installing Avast.

Never have more than one anti virus product on your Pc at the same time.

So now uninstall Avast, reboot.

Then uninstall McAfee. reboot

Then reinstall Avast.

Once McAfee is off then your Windows built in firewall will be turned ban.

What release of Windows are you on?

You installed Avast so you should have an icon on your desktop. Open it and run a first scan and thats it. It'll check for any dodgy items on your device and quarantine them. x

McAfee is a full security suite[i which includes both anti-virus software and its own firewall. So it (quite correctly) disables the built-in Windows firewall when you use it.

The free version of Avast is just an anti-virus program, without its own firewall. (You're expected to use either the one built into Windows or a third party product, such as that offered by Comodo).

If you uninstall McAfee (and don't install another firewall) I'd expect Windows to switch the built-in firewall back on. However you can't have [i]fully] uninstalled McAfee if you're still getting messages from it!

You can't just completely uninstall McAfee from your list of installed programs. You need to download and run a special tool to do so. (However you should still uninstall from your list of installed programs FIRST and THEN run the tool!)

All of that should have been done BEFORE installing Avast (but you might still be able to do it now anyway).

Once you've definitely got rid of all traces of McAfee (and it therefore can't possibly be giving you any messages about your firewall) you should check that your Windows firewall is enabled

OR install a free third-party firewall, such as Comodo:

(Third party firewalls, such as the one built into McAfee or the freebie from Comodo, are theoretically better than the one built into Windows, as they offer 'two-way' protection. However most people, including me, are happy enough to stick with the Windows one).

OMG that was scary :( After I'd uninstalled Avast + tried to reboot, HP came on + System BIOS is being updated....and the fan came on (which I've never heard on this lappy before) . Then Flashing Boot Block.....then Flash completed.

@Chris.....that link you supplied was just telling me to go into Programs + select Add/Uninstall......I'm confused now,....there's no sign of anything McAfee in that list......:/

Thanks so much,...think all is sorted now! The reason I didn't twig there was a link to click was cos nothing was in bold.
One problem I had was that Cyberlink thing came back, but I think I got rid of it again....will send you a link to that question I asked in a mo.
