advertising your website online/papers etc - help please

Hey there

I was just wondering if anyone could help me please.  I have created a new website (Dont worry Im not going to list it here in case you think this is some marketing/advertising ploy). 

Thing is I live in UK (Edinburgh) and wondered if anyone knew of any places/papers/sites etc where I can advertise for free or really cheap. Even job sites and local papers etc.

I was passed the info etc on from another person and this seems a really good opportunity to make some good money, so as you could imagine Im wanting to get it out there quickly before other people get involved etc.

What does your website do? I would expect most trade is through search engines, but you could advertise your site on other relevant sites or in relevant publications / locations locally.

So if you sell guitars, advertise at your local music venues.

Hey

It doesnt really sell lots of different items as such.  Basically theres several ebooks which can be resold etc (Ive already put them on Ebay though) but the main item is a 5 step programme (5 Ebooks). 

The programme is basically an Ebook selling business, its one of these things thats passed on etc and you get other people to do it blah blah blah money builds up

I know youre probably thinking "What are you up to you muppet?, these things never work" but it seems to have worked for the few folk Ive emailed thats tried it but they say the key is in advertising and getting it out there for people to see so thats why Im asking you guys.  As I said its all perfectly legal, above board and I'm not mentioning the site on here so people can't say Im trying to get a few bob out of the folk at answerbank, so hopefully my big spraff above (sorry about that) has helped to explain what Im after a bit better.

"Pyramid" selling can work, but only if you're a ruthless, cut-throat you-know-what who would sell his/her mother a set of rubbish encyclopedias at an inflated price and at a crippling rate of interest. Judging by your posts you seem like a decent person and so maybe you're in the wrong business (or maybe I'm ultra-cynical).

I can't think that any newspaper (or similar) is going to give you free advertising. Furthermore, due to the 'borderline legality' of some schemes, many periodicals will also refuse paid advertising.

Remember that you're only allowed to get people to join the scheme by telling them about the profit they will make by selling EBooks. The moment you start saying 'The main way you'll make money is by recruiting other people', you'll be breaking the law. (Part XI of the Fair Trading Act, as amended by the Trading Schemes Act 1996 and the Trading Schemes Regulations 1997.).
