This may be a silly question but ....
As I remember, my Home page "House" has always been a solid black symbol. Now it has become just a black outline!
It appears that the function has not changed but does it matter, how did I do it & should I change it back? (If so, how?)

It's a solid black on Firefox, and an outline on Chrome.

Have you changed your browser?

Hold down shift and right click gets you into the management page but you`d have to search and re - add the icon you want.

I have not intentionally changed my browser. I thought that I was using Chrome but perhaps I was just using basic Google and have not activated Chrome. How do I tell? (sorry to be so ignorant)

Google is a company. It's two most popular products are the Google search engine, which is available regardless of what browser you are using, and Chrome, which is a browser. There's no such thing a s basic google.
Chrome is updated quietly in the background from time to time.
It's quite possible that Google have changed the Home button icon recently.
In any case, it really doesn't matter.

...in fact, on checking some old screenshots of Chrome, the Home icon did used to be solid black, and is now just an outline.

Chrome updated recently.
