I use Google Chrome and have Google as my default search engine but every time I search something it searches using Yahoo, which is rubbish! I've been to my settings and Google is def set as default.

Any ideas?

You might install one/more 3rd party Google Chrome extension that redirect your search result to Yahoo. I have face similar problem and tried many ways to overcome this. But failed and finally, it was solved by restoring my laptop OS (Windows 10)

am most definitely not a techie (as you know!) did you at any time ever have yahoo as a search engine?
Maybe, somewhere, your pc/laptop/device is just confusing itself?

Do hope you can get it sorted.

No...I've never used Yahoo. Sometimes the default will switch for no apparent reason but it's usually easy to switch back. Doesn't seem to be working though.
dont know if this will help ummmm
Change your default search engine: To change your default search engine in Google Chrome: Click the Chrome menu icon (at the top right corner of Google Chrome), select "Settings", in the "Search" section, click "Manage Search Engines...", remove "Yahoo" and add or select your preferred domain.

Cheers Bernie...but I've already done that and blinking Yahoo is still coming up.

Even if I type a Q into Google, Yahoo is still trying to answer it.
very strange help will come along x
seems laos of people are having your problem ummmm
here is an answer from a chrome expert
Thanks for contacting the Google Product Forums. I'm sorry you are having difficulty. I'll try my best to help. :)

Go to Chrome/settings/search and set the page to Google. Then click manage search engines and remove Yahoo. Close Chrome and restart and see what happens. If you get anything except Google then it is likely you have malware on your machine. If that's the case follow these steps:

Here's a list of things you can do to possibly remove the Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs):

Reset Browser Settings.
Remove/Disable all your extensions.
Install antivirus protection software programs like Malwarebytes, Yet Another Cleaner, Avast, and many more! I like Malwarebytes
Scan your computer for malware and make sure that your antivirus is searching for everything.

Cheers, Bernie, I'm doing a scan now, will let you know :-)
Are you using Windows 10 ummmm ?
If so, click on the 3 dots top right hand corner, and go to advanced settings. Scroll down until you see Change search engine, and proceed from there...
good luck x

Windows 7, Rowan.
We are using Windows 10,ummmm.
Not sure about windows 7, but your settings need checking, wherever settings is in windows 7...
Question Author
Sounds like it's pretty much the same.

When It first happened I took Yahoo off the list but it's still coming.
I think you have to go into IE window and then 'Manage Add-ons' and then 'Search Providers', so that you can double check your settings...
Hope that works !!
Ummmm, have you checked your settings. Is Google shown as default search engine?
