Beware. This morning I received a very convincing looking email purporting to be via the HMRC gateway site telling me that my forms had been processed calculating that I was entitled to a refund of nigh on £700. Very exciting. Greed would tempt me to log in and give my details. This transaction can only take place you see electronically, as you do. The tax people NEVER make contact via email......post only. If you get such aa email forward it to < [email protected] >
and delete it.
Been getting them for years Togo; usual giveaway is it says 'pounds sterling' rather than '£', as though it is a foreign currency. Did the email name you or was it 'Dear e-mail address'?
Dear email address Capito. But a shortened version of my name is in the mail address so it carried my name. Very convincing mind. When I forwarded it to the site I posted it was dealt with instantly by HMRC. I was spending the dosh in an instant then went.........hang on!!!!!
OH had a similar email a couple of days ago but he's under strict instructions from me not to open things like that. He's also had a number of emails from 'paypal' asking him to update his 'account', yet he's never had an account with them in his email address, so another to beware of, paypal are investigating.
