Internet Router Pin Removal
I have recently changed my provider. With the previous one, German TELEKOM I had a rented router called a Speedport. Now I have left them & cancelled the contract they want me to return the router (for free) but they ask me to remove the PIN.
I have no idea how to do this, presumably it would be done on the internet. Why do they suggest this & would it matter if I just sent it back, as it is? Can it be used in some malevolent way to my detriment?

Just guessing, but this may be a "data protection"/ confidentiality/ blah blah consideration.
Perhaps they want the PIN removed from the routers internal firmware so that no one can use it to connect to your system.
That all sounds ridiculously improbable though.
Anyway, I would imagine that, to un-enter the PIN, you need the IP address of the router (should be in the instruction manual.)
Type this into your browser, get into the router firmware, and delete the PIN.
I honestly can't see the point of it though.
