I'm running W10 on my laptop and a couple of times a week for a while now when I switch it on and open a browser and click on one of my bookmarks I get a 'Server not found' page. I found that refreshing the page would put it right at first but that solution eventually stopped working. I would then re-start the laptop and that also worked for a while before also failing. I then started switching it off and back on again. Again it was a short term solution. I am now down to switching the router off and on to get it to work.
I have run scans with Malware Bytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Ccleaner and Avast with nothing found.
I have also ( when this first started) restored to an earlier date, with no effect.
I've tried two other browsers but it made no difference.
So, am I correct in thinking I need a new router or can anyone suggest something else?
Have you run the internet connection troubleshooter? It could be a driver for the router problem.
Firstly Press the windows key or click on the windows icon bottom left in the task bar.
Then choose settings(little cog icon in pop up menu)
Then choose Network and Internet. Then Network TYroubleshooter and follow any instructions.
Let us know if this helps. If it doesn't we can try updating the network drivers.
Thanks Togo, tried that and it says I am able to connect to some websites. Don't know what it means by 'some' but I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back to bed now. Drugged up to the eyeballs and feeling as weak as water.
Thanks again.
I tried your solution yesterday Buenchico but today the problem is back. I can connect using my mobile but on my kindle, the problem persists. Also, I get an error code on the kindle which says " net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET". Using my mobile to search for a solution I disabled my anti-virus and tried again. No joy. Restarted the laptop again and here I am.
Press the "windows" and x key together.
Now from the pop up menu select Device Manager.
Now from that menu look for "Network Adaptors" and again click. This will expand the heading into a list ...... look for the Network Wireless Adaptor that is listed there. (Possibly Netgear WiFi adaptor or something similar) Now RIGHT Click on this and you should see an option to "Update this software/driver" . Click on that. Then follow any on screen instructions. You may have to re boot afterwards.
