I have some mov videos which I have to edit using an old version of Premier. I am really struggling to convert them to avi or mp4 so they will go into the project. Any ideas how I can do this? The 'free' online ones time out/don't work/don't allow me to do a transfer the size I need (around 6 mins per video).

AVC is widely recommended: https://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/?__c=1

PS: You should already have VLC on your computer if you're dealing with video files. If so, you can use it to convert between different formats. (It's probably not quite as intuitive as using a dedicated file-conversion program but I've done it myself, so it can't be that hard!):

^^^ NB: Click on the TITLE of the video above, rather than on the 'Play' button. That will open it in Youtube itself, rather than as an embedded video on this site, making it easier to see what's going on.

Thanks Buen- I have tried AVG a few times and all it does is turn the file upside down and remove the audio!
My flatmate tried it on his and the same thing happened. I’ve emailed them for advice !
Use VLC then. As I've indicated, the process isn't quite as simple as using a standalone conversion program but you should get a good result from it.
If you still get stuck, you could always use Shotcut as a video editor:
https://shotcut.org/

You could either load the MOV files and then export them in MP4 format (for later editing in Premier) or, simpler, use Shotcut (instead of Premier) for the whole process anyway.

Thanks - I managed to get it working on AVC! :D
Thanks for the feedback.

I knew we'd get there in the end ;-)
