Buenchico, I Need Another Laptop
5 Answers
Hello, I need another laptop to replace an old 'Acer Windows 7 Home' which is coming to the end of its life.
A couple of years ago you advised me to buy an HP zbook 15, which I did, and I use that solely for playing music with Virtual DJ, it was a bargain at about £400.
I want one now for everyday stuff, emails, Facebook, buying stuff online, storing documents, photos etc, I'm not tech minded and need something simple to understand.
Your advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

As Goodgoalie says, AC Computer Warehouse is a firm that I totally trust. I've bought loads of stuff from there, both for myself and on behalf of others, never with any problems. (More accurately, that should read 'never with any problems that weren't solved by the firm's excellent customer service'. There have been a couple of times when I've phoned them...

(More accurately, that should read 'never with any problems that weren't solved by the firm's excellent customer service'. There have been a couple of times when I've phoned them about something that was baffling me with a new computer purchased from there but they answer their phone calls promptly and are happy to give as much time as possible to sort things out. They've always left me feeling like a happy bunny!). Several other AB members have bought from there too, with plenty of positive feedback.
Wherever I was buying a laptop from nowadays, I wouldn't consider any model without a solid state drive and I'd prefer to have at least 8 GB of memory. With that in mind, this refurbished laptop is one which I think you ought to consider:

It's only got a 120 GB drive but that's perfectly adequate for day-to-day computing unless you'd need to store lots of large files (such a video files or your very large collection of music files) directly onto the hard drive, rather than onto an external drive. The laptop I'm typing this on now has a 128 GB drive, which I'm never going to fill with the things I use the machine for. If you did want a larger SSD though, there are options within that link to upgrade to a 240, 480 or 960 GB drive.
When I bought the laptop that I'm using right now though, AC Computer Warehouse didn't have anything in stock that met my needs and my budget. So I looked elsewhere and came across this eBay seller, with 99.9% positive feedback. I ended up buying a Lenovo Thinkpad from there which was in mint condition, and had cost roughly £1000 when new only a few years before, for just £200:

From the models currently listed there, I think I'd be tempted by this for £220 (but for only £198 if you order by Monday, using the discount code shown at the top of the page). It's an absolute bargain!

PS: I've just checked on the original price of that Lenovo Thinkpad when it was new. The basic version at that time was priced at around £900 but that only hard a conventional hard drive and just 4 GB of memory, so the one in my link above is much higher up the range. So, just like the (X250) Lenovo Thinkpad I bought myself from that seller, you're getting at least a grand's worth of computer for just a couple of hundred quid!
Buenchico.......
I have just ordered and paid for the Lenovo Thinkpad on eBay.
Thank you soooo much for all of your help, over the past couple of years I have ordered a printer, tower PC and now 2 laptops, all on your expert recommendations, it is so helpful to have someone with plenty of tech savvy on AB, its such a help and comfort to know that help is there, thanks once again.
