Web Site Creation Help
12 Answers
I am looking to set up a website for my small business and wondered if anyone could recommend a 'free' or cheap site/host. It is something I want to be able to create, develop and teach myself, rather than paying someone else, so as user freindly as possible, I have searcged the web but am in need of 'practical advice' and experience. Many thanks

Great price for what they offer, which is more than enough for what you'll need (I would have thought).

for a business you should try to avoid free webhosts, as they like to add their name into the url. ie. jos66.bravehost.com for bravenet webhost or freewebs.com/jos66 for freewebs. this looks very unproffesional. would you buy anything from a company that are too unsuccessful to pay like 20 a year for a domain name?
you can buy a domain for about a tenner and have some free space. i am writing a website for my business at the moment. the current one is on the web but my unfinished one is on heart internet hidden from the world but it can be tested on any computer because it is live. you simply need the web address.
if you expand or want to add more features you just pay about 3 quid a month.
i found it very easy to put my site on an i was a first timer.

You cheapest option, and one which ticks all the boxes for professionalism too, is to go with a host in the USA. They're much cheaper than the UK and you'll get all the trimmings too.
It doesn't matter where in the world your host is. You'll find it just as easy to manage if its over there or over here. But over there the prices are more competitive and the facilities are better.
Its important you have a good back-end control panel. Cpanel is the industry standard. It will let you do all kinds of things like set up email accounts, create a blog, manage your files, set up a database.... ok - so you won't want all these things straight away but it'll be good to have access to them later.

For a good (low cost) host, see

Good luck! :)
