Markers On Google Maps

Searched for a business type near me, Google Maps opened. Most markers were shaped as a red ring, but one marker is squared off with rounded corners. I can not find a key to explain the difference in meaning, so I was hoping someone here would know.

Thanks.

Have you tapped on the square one and one of the others to see the info they show?

Anyone can add a marker to the map and there are lots of icons/markers to choose from.  Maybe there is no significance in the different marker, just choice

Thanks.

They seem similar places (HiFi repair) which is why I queried it. (A third marker showed a shopping bag and was very different when checked (cleaned LPs by the look of it, so wasn't what I was checking for).)

The person who sets up the marker determines which icon to use (I think). There are a range of default icons to choose from but they can also be modified (java script?).

Ah, ok. Must be it then.

Just seemed weird all others were either circles or shopping bags yet that one stood out.

Oh really weird,  just scanned again and the rounded square became a circle. Well at least I've learnt something; that the choice of marker has no consistent meaning.

Cheers both.
