...in row over how £9bn Chagos deal is funded.

Kemi Badenoch's spokesperson said the Tory leader hoped President Donald Trump would block the deal.

Will he?  And why won't Starmer tell us where the money is coming from?

I'm sure it's an oversight and you'll be copied in in future as head of department - blue ops.

The Chagos deal needs binning immediately. Has Trump decided to ignore it ? I thought the US were very sceptical of it.  Seems to have gone quiet.

Without it the ridiculous "charge" is no longer a thing.

The very suggestion that it becomes part of the defence budget, because of renting (or whatever) the American base for a while, is utterly ridiculous. We already have the island, there is no reason to deliberately inflict a self caused wound on ourselves.

I don't understand the rationale, OG.  There doesn't seem to be any.

//The Chagos Islands deal will not go forward without the support of US President Donald Trump, the foreign secretary has said.//

The simpering, nasally, whiney creepy liar is simply not worthy of trust. It's almost like he's programmed to "destruct" mode.

I'd say there are probably massive backhanders involved. Milliband certainly profits well from all his dealings and I daresay Free Gear is no different.

I still don't understand how we are giving something away and also paying the recipient. Can anyone explain what the money is meant to be for?

Can someone please explain what the reasoning is behind this deal. I've not understood it from day one.

I dont get it either, but then probably negotiated by the same liberals that negotiated Brexit.

Coudnt negotiate their way out of a paper bag.

Question Author

I dont recall seeing Starmer or anyone else explain the reasoning behind it.

He cant, its ideologically driven

Ideologically in what way?

Ideologically in what way?

Because he is enthralled to all suprantional bodies. He and his mate, the Attorney-General, believe "international law" is far more important than domestic law or domestic interests.

The Tories were no better. They began this nonsense when the UN issued a non-binding (and wholly misguided) ruling that the islands should be "returned" to Mauritius (who have never controlled them).

Mr Starmer is the ideal man to finish the job.

The reason we have to make payments is because we need to retain a presence on Diego Garcia. So we must pay rent.

Apparently Trump has approved the deal. Why why wouldn't he if Britain is paying for it!

*Well* why
