Can anyone help me, I wanted to download Teams to my home laptop specifically to make teams calls. I've downloded the free version, then looked into at and it says download home/office with up to 60 mins of free calls but that doesn't work either. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong or if it's not even possible. I only want it for calling, don't need to use the chat or meeting feature.

Pretty much yes and although it seems to say free calls once downloaded there is no option to call, the phone icon is not there. I am familiar with teams, it's what we use at work. - and your link shows payment plans (eg 7.99 a month). It's very confusing.

I downloaded the free version, logged in with my Skype details (as requested) and can make calls. The phone symbol is at the top.

I have the free version

I don't have Skype at home, am I supposed to download that as well????

No,Skype is no longer available, Teams is the replacement.

I just downloaded free teams to see if phone icon is there.

Trying to understand why you are having problems

Maybe uninstall and reinstall from a different source / link?

Well without posting a picture I have this as the url https://teams.live.com/v2

Down the left I have these icons:

Teams, Chat, Meet, Calendar, Community, Activity

I have added one contact via their email. When I click on them I only have those options. There is no phone icon or call option, I see that as a problem.

Does your contact have Teams?

Question Author

Yes they do, it's a work account. I do know that much about it. I have used teams daily at work for the last 2 years (before they took us off the far superior Skype). I know what it looks like, I know how to use it but it doesn't look the same on a home account. Everything is there except the call icon.

You have to start a Chat with the person you want to call, then the audio (phone) and video icons appear. See here:

Question Author

Thank you Etch but that is it, when I open the chat to my single contatc there is no option to call. There is no phone icon anywhere. It could be that as the contact is a business one they don't accept external Teams calls. I will keep looking into it.

I have sorted it now (I think). I have to send an invite link via email to my contact and now they have accepted the phone icon appears. Thanks for aiming to help barry & etch :-)

Glad you're sorted. 🙂
