Newly Installed 60Gb iPod

I have posted an earlier question but here goes again with more background.

I have deleted many instances of Quicktime plus iTunes Etc. I believe I did a clean install of the software provided with the iPod from CD. I rebooted and connected the iPod, it now sits with the do not disconnect message with loads of disk activity. All I see on the PC regarding it; is a Removable Disk (F:) under My Computer and if I right click My Computer from the Desktop and then click manage and then expand Disk drives, I see an Apple iPod USB Device. What do I need to do now? Is this a normal status? Do I now run the updater?

This is a truly annoying piece of technology, which should be so easy to set up and get running..........

it normally is. either you've done something wrong, or the thing itself has done something wrong, or something's got a bit conflicted on your system.

do you have your music on your computer? if so, uninstall iTunes and Quicktime, and re-download (note: download, not from the CD):

once that's back on your system, put your music back into iTunes. that all work fine? great! now, you need to get your iPod working. plug iPod in, goto the iPod updater, and format your iPod. then unplug, restart computer, run iTunes, and re-dock iPod. should work fine.

Thanks for your help thus far, I have reinstalled iTunes and copied all of my music back to it without a problem. However, my PC still cannot see it as an iPod. It locks the system up for about 5 mins and I see exactly the same devices as I referenced in my first note. The update program sits on initializing, not surprisingly as it doesn't find an iPod. It is a real nightmare.

EUREKA!

I was up until 1 this morning, I found a forum talking about USB overloads. I decided to unplug my Printer that is connected via USB and BINGO! iPod can now be seen by my PC. I do get a strange message from Memory Card Manager saying: Failed to locate supported file types or there are no photos found on this device. Strange but I can live with this.

I left the iPod connected overnight to get a massive update from iTunes.

glad you sorted it. i assumed you had the iPod directly connected (it really needs to be)
