uncle scrooge's case

Hiya gang, please suggest a phrasing to describe the sort of 'device' that Uncle Scrooge keeps his lucky dime in/under. I came up with "under a glass cover" and "in a crystal display case", but when I do a Google picture search on these, it doesn't seem to be spot on. Nearly almost... but maybe not quite...?

I need a phrasing that suggests how priceless the object displayed is - I mean, it's not a cheese or something... I should say it's not Scrooge I am writing about, so don't hesitate to suggest a phrasing that doesn't fit his world! What's important is that it's sort of fairy-taily and beautiful and suggestive of treasures. The object in question is small, like a ring. Thanks!

it's usually called a bell jar - if you search for that via Google Images, you'll find pictures of what is basically the McDuck device. But it's a scientist's implement, not normally used for precious objects; that was just Carl Barks' joke. Maybe you could invent 'a safe made of bulletproof glass' or something similar?

PS I do understand about the difference you described and the scientific connection - but it does fit the story, you see.

I wish... (Why - is it illegal...?) But what a good theory - that would qualify both as "priceless gem" and as "scientific study object." You're too clever, jno, I'm going to have to bite my tongue if I want to maintain my secrecy around here! (No I'm not a celebrity - just paranoid...)
