Dear Very Helpful Guy and Rojash,
Thanks.
>One search engine is provided by Google the other by >Microsoft.

Unless you have set Google as the IE search engine. But you're right, it would give you the option to have two different search engines handy. I'm perfectly happy with Google though.
>It does not hurt to leave them both on the toolbar.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------No, it just clutters things up.
>If you do want to remove it try the small arrow to the right >of the word Tools (in the top right). Select on the arrow >and you get a small menu. Select Toolbars from it.

>You can't remove it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Maybe this'll be sorted in the next version of the Google toolbar or IE.
>If, like me, you only ever use Google, you are better off >getting Firefox. At least with that you can remove the built >in Search bar
