help needed to change bios settings.
2 Answers
I ahve just bought an mp3 player and it will not work on my computer.
It says that my port setting should be on ECP port.
My port is not set on this so I have to go into the bios settings to change the port to ECP.
I am running xp proffesional.
I have read that if you change the bios settings you can cause your computer to malfunction if you don't do it properly.
How do I do this as I don't want to do it wrong.
Any help would be great.
Thank you very much.

ECP is a parallel (printer) port setting which is an "Integrated Peripheral". Find the Integrated Peripheral settings, find the parallel port mode and change it to ECP (or ECP + EPP) using DMA 3 (and EPP 1.9). You often change the settings by highlighting using the arrow keys then using "Page Up" and "Page Down" to scroll throught the settings. Once selected use Esc to get to the main menu then Exit and Save Settings. Your BIOS may differ from this but they all have instructions on screen. Don't worry about messing it up, they often have a "Load Fail-Safe Defaults" if things go wrong. Flashing the mainboard BIOS is where you can do real damage.
