Piggy in the Middle

I have a couple of online friends that totally hate each other. The reason they hate each other has nothing to do with me but Im sick of being piggy in the middle because of it.

I dont tell each of the friends when I am/have been talking to the other (in fact I dont mention them to the other at all) but sometimes they will both ask 'when did you last talk to ********' I am not prepared to lie about it so will tell them the truth. Then I get a barrage of crap, along the lines of 'oh i dont know how you can talk to ******** he/she is such a lying two faced so and so' They then spend the next half hour slagging the other person off even though I tell them im not interested in hearing it. Then more often than not the person who has asked will throw a strop and totally avoid me for a few days (eg only coming online when they know I wont be there, or ignoring my email or not replying to me if i give them a shout on msn)

Apart from this I get on really well with both people but Im getting really fed up of all the childishness. I have told both of them to stop it but almost half the time I talk to them one of them mentions the other. I dont want to fall out or stop talking to either of these friends as I do really like them both.

As anyone else experienced anything like this? As anyone any ideas how I can go about making it all stop?

Any time either of them ask about the other tell them that you refuse to talk to them about it until they stop being childish, tell them you hate being piggy in the middle and that they are risking their friendship with you. Failing that throw your pc out, go spend a week in Hawaii with Vin Diesel.

refuse to talk about them full stop. Dont even say that you have been speaking to them. and basically follow goodsoulettes advice!

I would put my foot down with both of them straight away, you get on with both of them and thats all that counts, if neither like it well tough luck, point out to whichever one your next with, that your not here to bitch behind the other ones back and you won't have your friends slacked off in front of you, if they don't like each other their is nothing you can really do, point out if they carry on slagging of each other to you, they will more than likely have one less friend in future?

Sometimes you have to be really up front with people, these two deserve this treatment.

cheers GS , so far I have only told them that I am not talking to them about the other person, maybe if I refuse to talk to them full stop they will stop doing it (i didnt actually wanna do that but it looks like thats gonna happen eventually so it may as well happen sooner and hopefully it will get sorted out) If not then wooo hoooo Hawaii here I come (snigger) sorry lol

cheers laurence :D Im not really good at putting my foot down but like you and GS say its prolly the best thing to do. They both know that I hate it cos i wont say anything back to them about each other and ive told them loads of times im not interested in hearing it so gawd knows why they do it, I try my best to change the subject but that seems to be when they strop off :(

I think it is extremely rude to slag off somebody else's friend in front of them!
If they don't like each other, that is their problem, and they should get on with it without involving you!

Personally I would tell them that I have had enough of this, and that I would end contact with them, if they did not stop this totally unfair behaviour.

My final say on this is if your friends dont get on and cause you problems and upset are they really friends at all ?

no one can make you do what you don't want to do. if you told them you don't want to discuss one with the other, then just ignore them when they bring up each other's name in conversation and continue talking about something else. they will eventually get the message.
