Connectint to Internet Explorer

I usually connect to the internet via Internet Explorer but occasionally use Mozilla Firefox. Whilst using Firefox this evening something popped up to say a program was trying to gain access and without reading it properly I clicked the button. Whatever I have done seems to have blocked me from getting I.E. I usually get me emails etc by clicking the wee green man at the bottom of the screen but now I have to type the hotmail address each time and enter my password etc. Can nayone help me to get back into IE please?
