hi,

ive recently been building a commercial website. my web designer is saying that we now need to do some search engine optimisation. he's trying to say that its expensive and it wasn't included in the original quote to build the site and backend.

can anyone help me through this maze? what is search engine optimisation and how expensive and complicated is it?

SEO is really just a way of getting your website to the top of the list when some one searches for something related to your webpage. You can do it yourself, by editing the metatags on your web sites html code. You can buy software that will do it for you and it really isnt that expensive.

It all depends on what your site is about and what keywords you want to target.

With respect to Discord, on-site SEO i.e. changing your site is less important (overall) than off site which involves getting people to link to your website. Generally the biggest spend is for paid links.

Personally I'd say to your web designer that he has not done his job if SEO was not included in the initial build, a bit like building a car and now including any wheels.

It's really too big a subject to discuss here so I'd suggest you get yourself on google.

cheers you two. thats largely what i thought and why i posted the question. i think the guy may have under quoted for his original pitch and has been trying to hit me up ever since.

the other problem hes created is that im using protx as my psp, but i also need to be able to use paypal. hes saying that that wasn't included in the backend as well and configuring that to the site is going to cost. im getting fed up with his approach. particularly when its now 4 weeks over due.

ive been reading www.fasthost.co.uk and am going to call my host to see what they have to say about SEO, but i wouldn't mind having a chat with you discord. how do i get your email addy?

Apart from what Discord and Wo Wo said, there are many other SEO techniques. As explained by Discord, SEO helps you to build more traffic to your website and also makes your site appear in the top of search engine results. However, editing the meta tags alone won't yield much results. There are other SEO techniques like article submission, press release submission and so on to reach international audience. Regarding the price, there are not too costly. I saw an affordable SEO company based in India http://www.submitinme.com . Better check it out. "If you miss SEO, you're loosing a lot in your business" it's based on my view.

seo is a process to bring the website in top ranking in search engines. With the help of this you can explore your business, increase your brand and sales.

While developing a website you have to keep some seo points so that website can easily be optiised. For this you can learn from google. First learn some basics and then search for seo company or seo expert who is cheaper for your services. dont use any software for seo. they are bad practice.
