Divide the first number by the second number to give a number expressed to two decimal places
Add 1
You then have the decimal odds
So . . . .
7/4 expressed as a decimal is 1.75
Odds of 7/4 are expressed in decimal format as 2.75
4/7 expressed as a decimal is 0.57
Odds of 4/7 are expressed in decimal format as 1.57
Evens is expressed as 2.0
2/1 as 3.0 and so on.
Odds in decimal format, when multiplied by your stake, will show how much you will receive from the bookie, including the stake, if your bet wins (assuming he charges no comission)
Hence a winning 1 bet:
at 7/4 will return you 2.75
at 4/7 will return you 1.57
at evens will return you 2.00
at 2/1 will return you 3.00
Most online bookmakers will allow odds to be expressed as fractions (usually shown as 'UK format') or as decimals
