a SECURITY TOOLBAR has popped up and I cannot get rid of it. Also, whenever I change pages Security alerts and anti virus messages appear. I am not technically minded (no spring chicken) so can someone please tell me (in simple terms) how to get rid of these unwanted interlopers.

Hi, I am using Windows XP. The message just asks me to install anti virus software. I have Symantec Anti Virus installed and it has just identified and quarantined a programme - TROJAN.ZLOB and TROJAN START PAGE.
The Task bar still remains it stretches across screen and says - SECURITY TOOLBAR 7.1 BLOCK ADWARE/POPUPS AND REMOVE SPYWARE. How can I get rid of it.

Zlob usually travels with Vundo. I can offer up a couple of tools but without proper analysis theres no guarantee you will be infection free.

ZLOB AND VUNDO what are these? Where do they come from, and what is their purpose?

they are malware .... generally all malware isn't good some is spyware .....

which version of norton?

I seem to remember that XP couldn't see inside norton ... so couldn't monitor updates.

unfortunately the only solution is to diasble security centre .... which isn't the best idea

Thanks for help everyone. The problem seems to have been dealt with by Symantec. No toolbar, lots of files quarantined and deleted. Fingers crossed no repeat.

Hi, its me again.

I'm having another problem, when I click on certain links, I have a jumbled message and in the address column this appears http://ffinder.com with a long list of letters or numbers.

Anyone know what is happening and what I can do to get rid of it.
