msn not playin sound

hi i have msn and before it was workign fine and I have not changed any of the options but suddenly it no longer plays any of the sounds.

now i have uninstalled it and installed a newer version but still it fails to play. I have checked the paths to the files are correct which they are. However even when you play them in msn with the play button next to the path window no sound comes out.

however, when you play the sound in media player it works..

please help as it is annoting not havi any sound as a warning.
