I want to connect to Skype to be able to talk to my sons who are far away from home at present. I am told I can use tis with a webcam. Would I need to get an IT expert in to do this or is it something I could do myself. ( I know a little, but not a lot).

You will be able to do this yourself.

A webcam will plug in to a usb port and is simple to install and operate.

You can download Skype now and use it without a webcam - so you get familiar with it.
Ethel's right, you don't need a webcam, but you will need a microphone or a headset with one built in.

Thanks a lot to you both for your answers. I will head out tomorrow to get headphones so seems like you have saved me a lot of cash!
Thanks again!
Yep, you do not have to be a genius to install Skype. Just download the software from Skype website and double-click on it and follow the instructions :-)
After it is installed, just login with your Skype id and add your sons' Skypeid (almost same as Yahoo messenger or MSN messenger). Let us know in this question if you need any help.

Thanks to you all who replied to help me. Managed to work it all out brilliantly and was able to have a three-way conversation with them and then one-to-one with video. Just made my day.
