USB Bandwidth problems

I recently bought a brand new motherboard and cpu. I put Windows XP back on and all my old peripherals (hard drive, modem, graphics and sound card etc)

It wont let me connect anymore USB devices as the broadband modem is taking up 79% of available USB bandwith. I didnt have this problem using the same version of XP, with the same modem on the motherboard that was 3 years old.

I think the motherboard supports USB 2.0 but my version of XP only supports 1.0, as its a dodgy copy I cant download and install the service pack for 2.0 support.

The answer is to purchase a proper copy of XP -but was wondering why this problem has arisen now, with a much newer motherboard.

never heard that one ..... have you loaded/updated the bios/mobo and modem drivers?

also how many usb headers are on the board (it would have been an ides to include mobo make/model info in your question!!!)

xp supports both USB versions natively (it can't be that dodgy) .... but you get what you opay for in that department

the motherboard disc only game with the on-board graphics and audio drivers, no other drivers were required.

The mobo is a Foxxcom Winfast 6150M2MA. It has 4 x ports at the back and 2 at the front. I've had a nosey through the BIOS settings and you can toggle between USB 1.1 or 2.0, doesnt make any difference.

My windows XP only installs support for USB 1.1, the later version of 2.0 is only available via an update and service pack 2.

the problem is probably caused because your new mobo has real ehci support
