is it right that i have to leave this plugged in to a power supply at all times? i configured it upon first use and when id finished using the 'puta, knowing i wouldnt use it again for a coupla days, i unplugged everyting. when i tried to re-use it i had to reconfigure it again, and the helpdesk says it has to stay plugged to a power supply. i find it hard to believe it cant save its settings once configured.

I've got a d-link modem (not sure which model) and although I don't switch it off very often, it certainly doesn't lose all its settings when I do!
I can't find anything in the spec about how the settings are stored. Most DSL routers/modems store their settings in flash memory which is non-volatile. I suppose it's possible that it uses battery-backed memory (like the CMOS settings in your computer) and so needs to be on for a few hours at first.

Having said that, the power consumption is only 9 watts, and it is designed to provide an always-on connection. With such devices, optimisation takes place over a few days of use, so turning it off whenever you are not using it would seem to somewhat defeat the object, and ensure that you never get a fully optimised connection.
