I know exactly why it happens, but not what causes it.

My guess if you downloaded this recently and didn't follow the instructions EXACTLY.

You are told to close all other programs before installing the download - and that means your firewall as well.

If I am right, uninstall IE7 (your old version will be intact) and reboot the pc.

Now download, but before installing close down every single program you have running. There is no reason for you to stay connected to the internet if you are worried.

Especially be sure to exit and close your firewall.

Now install.

When it is installed, restart your firewall and all should be well.

Thanks for your answer Ethel but it has been installed onto my PC now for quite a while and its only just started happening.
I'm baffled!!
Oh!

What firewall are you using? I'm convinced it is a firewall issue

Zonealarm
Think I'd try Ethel's first suggestion anyhow, uninstall ie7 from add remove programs and then download and install it again.

Either that or download either Firefox or opera as a browser, both far better than IE in my opinion.

Cheers for your answers.
I am using Firefox as we speak!!
I thought it would be ZoneAlarm.

I'm a bigfirefox fan, I have used it for years. But I do like to keep on top of things and downloaded IE7 - I had the exact problem as you, with ZoneAlarm.

Reinstalling it as I said should cure the problem.

But give firefox a good try - install the IE tab addon, so you'll never have to use IE again,.
Must agree on the Firefox point - I haven't had any spy ware for 12 months or more since using Firefox IE7 was banished to the bin

IE add on is good for the once in a year you need to use it -also no script , mcafee site advisor + adblock plus are essentials
