microsoft automatic updates
9 Answers
How can I stop my automatic updates for windows xp. At the beginning of this week, July 7th, I received an update from microsoft, Windows XP KB951748 which when installed blocks my access to the internet. I cannot go and look to see why this is happening because I cannot access the internet. Each day I have to uninstall it to be able to use my broadband and then the next day it installs itself again and I start all over again taking the update off my laptop. How can I stop this particular update installing itself again, or should I stop the automatic updates and what is the risk if I do. Thanks for your advice. Riptide.

It is a very foolish idea to block the Windows Operating System updates which contain the security patches required to keep your computer protected just so you can run something as useless as Zone Alarm.
Zone Alarm will not protect you against the holes in your unpatched Windows. Get your priorities right and uninstall the lame software.

The MS update is a critical patch to stop DNS spoofing, however the ZoneAlarm firewall had already countered DNS spoofing before MS got around to issuing their version of the patch. It appears the two anti-spoofing methods clash and so ZoneAlarm will now offer a solution to fix the problem caused by MS.
