The message is saying that it is trying to run a program called "Setup.exe" on your main C drive (your Windows drive), but that it is not a valid Windows program.

(A "Win32 application" is a program that runs under the usual versions of Windows XP or Vista).

The program (setup.exe) seems to be on your desktop.

I have seen this message before when you try to run a program from within a directory with a space in the name (in your case "Documents and Settings").

Not sure how you are trying to install it, by try moving the instal code to a directory with no space in the name, like C:\VirtualPC

What version of Windows are you trying to install it on?

It seems it wont install on Windows XP Home, nor Windows Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium.

You need to be on the "business" versions of XP or Vista.

Thanks for replying VHelpfulguy!

I chose 32 bit\setup download and downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.asp x?********=04d26402-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b 6&displaylang=en

The download tracker said it was 30.4mb and will take 1 hour to download. After about 15 minutes and only 487kb downloaded, message came up saying download was completed. And that the message I got.

The link you suggested give many choices. I will try again.
thank you again. x

No point in you downloading it them.

Virtual PC will not install on Windows XP Home.

Set the link above I gave you, under System Requirements.

(From what you say it sounds as though the whole file did not download last time).

If I should install service packs 1& 2 for XP Professional, will it work then?

Thanks for your help.
No - you have XP Home, you need XP Professional
Use this instead, it works on XP Home
