iTunes download speed

I regularly download the Archers podcast into iTunes. If the iTunes page is displayed centrally on my desktop it takes several minutes to download. If I drag the iTunes page down so I can only see the top half of it, download takes about 15 seconds. I have tried this several times, and it always works. Can anyone explain why this happens?
