I am able to speak & hear conversations using Voip (using a headset) but nothing at all via skype. I have deleted skype and re-installed, but still the same. Anyone out there got an answer for me please?

On the other hand, it could be (if, for example, you are using a USB headset) that you need to tell Skype which audio device to use. You can do this as follows:
Open Skype
Click Tools/Options from he main menu
In the General section, click on Audio Settings
In both the Microphone and Loudspeaker sections, select your headset.
Click Save
