free anti virus

is there a good free repacement for my norton antivirus 2006 thats life has just come to an end ,it wants a subscription charge to update ,with money being tight and all that i thought i would ask the question cheers, also what other free protection whoud you advice

Monty - Pay the money for the norton. I have just purchased a new PC as my 3 year old one was messed up by a virus. To try and solve the issue on my old PC I have tried just about every free one you can find. Nothing solved the problem. So I gave up a bought a new PC.

When I got my new PC I put Norton on it. Its a 3 user license so I thought I would put it on my old PC and see what happened. It sorted the issue within 10 mins.
Appears that you get what you pay for .

I use Avast with no problems.

Formerly used AVG also with no problems.

Would'nt touch Norton with a bargepole, too resource hungry.

I'm with the 'avast' or 'AVG' brigade, Norton caused me all sorts of problems and my IT boffin told me to steer clear of it No probs with avast to date.
