AVG updates - connection server failed
7 Answers
I have been regularly updating my free AVG anti-virus. Recently I also updated my Zonealarm and my Windows XP updates.
Tonight I have been trying to update AVG, but it says that my connection server failed. How can that have happened? Could it have anything to do with zonealarm asking me to accept loads of different changes ever since my other updates a few days ago.?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Open ZoneAlarm, chose Program Control on the left, then Programs under that.
This should list all the programs known to ZoneAlarm.
In the list of programs on the left find the AVG ones, and see what is the in "Access" column. It should be two green ticks (for permanant access) or 2 question marks (if you are going to be asked each time)
If there are red crosses next to AVG then access is not allowed.

I find it useful to "clear out" ZoneAlarm now and again.
Open ZoneAlarm and list all the programs like I showed above.
Select a program from the list, then RIGHT click and select Remove.
You can select and delete ALL the programs as follows:
* Select the TOP one
* Then scroll down to the bottom
* Now hold down the Ctrl and shift key AT THE SAME time
* Now select the bottom one.
This will select ALL the programs
Now right click on any program and select Remove. Reply Yes to the question.
Zonelarm should now be empty of programs.
Close ZoneAlarm and as it needs internet access you will be asked.
When AVG asks make sure you say Yes. Also click "Remember this setting".

I ticked the boxes in my ZoneAlarm for the AVG update server. That allowed the updates to be installed on my computer.
When I am in Google - Internet Explorer, the AVG symbols are still grey instead of green against each web page. The green leaf symbol used to show me whether the page was safe from viruses or not.
