My PC has just returned from repair and there appears to be a problem with Internet Explorer. If I type in an address in the address bar and press 'return' the screen goes blank, another window opens and the screen freezes. I then have to ctrl, alt and del to close the windows. However, if i do a search on google and click a link, all is fine. Not sure what to do?!

Take it back to where it was 'repaired'
If I were you, I would download Mozilla Firefox (just google it) - its a much better and more secure browser than IE, and its fully customizable - you can download free ad blockers etc. I never bother using IE now. Hope this helps.
