Hi
I have been sent some digital video files which are .VOB - can anyone suggest the best method to play them? Windows Media player says it needs an add-on to play them and these all seem to be paid for (& some are quite pricey and am not certain which one I need.) Any ideas would be most welcome.

Yea, grab VLC.

It's a general purpose media player. Not too great at organising your music (etc.) like Windows Media Player may be, but for just playing music or video, it's brilliant.
As others have indicated, VLC is vastly superior to Windows Media Player when it come to viewing videos. GOM is also excellent:

Incidentally, VOB is the format used by commercial video disks. So you should be able to copy the files to a DVD and watch the videos using your DVD player and TV, rather than your PC.

As I know, vob is one of the dvd format.
I use Daniusoft DVD ripper to transfer dvd to my players, it works perfect. You may refer to it:

Highly suggest that you just use it to rip things that are original productions and not commercial.
